He just woke up from amnesia so he hasn't gotten the hang of everything yet. So he kinda just exists for now. But by next episode we might get to see more of him taking the lead in strategising and planning

In the game the doctor would be the one commanding all the other characters in those small skirmishes against reunion, it just didn't get shown in the anime

in the game, he got all the godly powers like: slowing down the time (right before deploying OPs), redeploy/revive retreated/dead OPs and also can manipulate to restart the failed operations again... (Its just game mechanism jokes BTW.... XD )

better yet, he simulates a battle fully in his mind with the cost of sanity. Perfect calculations and battle plan, which is why his squad never loses.

The chibi characters & game mechanic with the chess tiles is partly real/true. Its the simulation of PRTS to help the Doctor on a psychological level. (Thus the Sanity points instead of action points)

Its been a faint but ongoing theory that the Doctor has a Arts or different kind of Power to simulate the future. Which is why we can try again and again on the combat stages in exchange for sanity. (Aka failure robs you sanity etc because of the consequences of said failure)

Tho there is not much to go on about this theory besides Black Memoire backstory stuff and the difference between the Doctor becoming cold/numb to sacrifice while current Doctor will do everything he can to keep everyone alive.

episode 5! as usual i haven't watched the eps when writing this and today i got too much work to reread the chapter like in eps 3, the preview also didn't show much other than we gonna meet the next Reunion leader in our way, Skullshatterer (IK it's not the coolest name, fck it's of the worst in the game imo but trust me the number of villain/character with dope af name in this game is off the chart). and with him showing, we will soon know the next price for Amiya's and RI goals, and just for one tiny steps towards it.

oot but if someone wondering whether this is gonna be a harem with that many girls surrounding the Doc, unfortunately for them this is not. idk the detail with Honkai Impact 3 story but take Arknight approach as that, many the characters got their own "pair" and Doc are just their coworkers/leader/work partners in the story, mostly as friend. out of 100+ characters perhaps only1 or 2 that's clearly got feelings with Doc without the influence of an otherworldly being.

this chapter started with 2 of some of the most popular pairs in the game that's Franka/Liskarm and Texas/Exusiai. Franka and Liskarm recently got their own spin-off manga entirely for them and well i gotta say, imo it's damn gay and i fcking love it. while Texas snd Exusiai are iconic already from the start of the game.

I think this is an example of how NOT to do a video game adaptation. It's a limited, 1:1 adaptation of a video game story that is already limited by the gameplay of a tower defense strategy game, resulting in a mediocre anime on its own. It is nothing more than a promotional campaign.

All they do here is going from point A to point B with a few rendezvous points and a few insignificant conflicts in between, its actual story and lore is set aside and is told from spoonfed information and implied through dialogues. It's literally like playing the game without the gameplay but with all the nonsensical conveniences the game has, and i don't think that is how you should enjoy an anime adaptation.

An adaptation like this should've gotten way more creative liberties so it can actually explore the story and lore with the potential the animation medium has where the video game couldn't. Cyberpunk edgerunners for example, they could've done a 1:1 adaptation and be fine with it because it's already a story driven game, yet they decided to explore the lore in ways the anime genre only can, resulting in a product that can stand on its own and resonate in many people's hearts while achieving the main goal the anime has in the first place, to push game sales, and pretty damn successful at that.

Arknights has no excuse for releasing such a mediocre adaptation when compared cyberpunk 2077, it's a lucrative gacha game with tens of millions of players ffs, they absolutely has the financial backing for a great one.
